Brown Rice
A form of unpolished rice with its bran retained, brown rice contains health-promoting fibre and B-vitamins. In the market, there is a variety of brown rice. The colour of the rice depends on the amount of colour (anthocyanins) in the rice bran. Similarly, different varieties of brown rice have its unique flavour and aroma. Cooked brown rice has a nutty flavour and a chewy texture.
Consuming a diet rich in wholegrains, such as brown rice, may lower risk of heart disease, diabetes and certain cancer due to its high fibre content. It can also help to manage weight by providing satiety and reducing calorie intake when you replace white rice with brown rice.
