Iron

Iron is an essential mineral that is critical for healthy red blood cell formation and transportation of oxygen to all body cells. It is an important component of haemoglobin (iron-containing oxygen-transport protein present in red blood cells) that transports oxygen throughout the body. With a lack of iron, the body does not get sufficient oxygen thus leaving you feeling fatigue and dizzy. This will also affect other bodily functions. Iron deficiency anaemia is the common type of anaemia, also known as sickle cell anaemia.
Women, in particular, need more iron in general. As they go through menstruation cycle, iron is lost and more is lost if they have heavy or prolonged menstrual cycles. Pregnant mothers will need more iron to support placental and foetal needs too.
Common food sources include meat and leafy greens (e.g. spinach and bok choy).
