Lycopene
Type: Antioxidant
Lycopene is a carotenoid antioxidant that helps provide health benefits to the heart, breast and prostate.
It is also the pigment that gives tomatoes and watermelons their intense red colour. Due to its antioxidative properties, lycopene helps fight against free radicals whereby excessive amounts can lead to oxidative stress.
Common food sources include tomatoes, grapefruit, watermelons and papayas.
